Dear Partners and Friends

The blessing of the Lord is one of the most misunderstood things in the body of Christ. If we really had a revelation of what the blessing meant to our lives, we would pursue activating it in faith at a much greater level. When God speaks out a blessing, it is much more than a nice prayer or thought. His blessing upon our lives is an active covenant promise that acts as God’s empowerment to accomplish anything He has marked us for.

Let’s take the blessing of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for example. God Almighty repeatedly mentions this throughout Scripture. When God refers to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, He is referencing His contractual agreement that He, the Lord, has appointed for them, but amazingly, it is the promise He made to Himself.

One example is found in Hebrews 6, where God states He could swear by non-greater, so He swore by Himself! What a statement and act from the Lord! He swore by Himself. What was He promising? Well, it was the blessing, and, in this case, it is the blessing He placed on Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to multiply.

Blessing is a spiritual force of multiplication; in the case of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, this blessing of multiplication was upon them to build a nation that God wanted. As a byproduct, everything attached to this plan would increase and multiply. As was Abraham’s case, cattle, land ownership, and even enough servants to build a small army came from obeying God and seeing the blessing take its role.  In Deuteronomy 28, over 16 major blessings are stated by the Lord.

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: 3Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. 4 “Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. 5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. 7 “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. 8 “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. 9 “The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. 10 Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you. 11 And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. 12 The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13 And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

—Deuteronomy 28:1-13

Ultimately, the highest purpose of the Lord’s blessing is to establish His covenant around the world, something that certainly plays into the New Testament era. God’s covenant going around the world today means taking the message of Jesus Christ and His salvation to every corner of the earth.

And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

—Deuteronomy 8:18

A major empowerment to make the gospel heard is knowing that God Almighty wants you to walk in His blessing. You actually have a covenant connection to the same promises Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob walked in, and because of what Jesus provided, there is no curse attached to it. Faith is the point of connection to all those who walked in the promises of God in the Old Testament. As Galatians 3:9  says, “So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.”

Consider the words of Proverbs 10:22, which states, “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it…” It must be stated that God’s idea of rich is very different from man’s. Man’s idea says you toil for everything, gather as much as possible, and hoard it for yourself. This mindset is why so many who see the blessing at work will often judge it as mammon, greed, or some other kind of ungodly activity. The worldly mindset is powerful and will lead people to believe having a lot of money is bad. However, many who strive to be rich only spend it on themselves. I’m reminded of the scripture passage in Luke 12.

Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

—Luke 12:16-21

Jesus was identifying what most strive for in the sense of making a profit, building something better for themselves, and then kicking back and enjoying the fruits of their labors until they are well along in years. No one expects to suddenly die in the process, or it is hard for most to perceive that they will one day suddenly be gone. The point Jesus was making is to be rich toward God. What a statement to be rich toward God. To better understand this point, consider Luke 16:11, where Jesus states, “Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?”

There certainly is great value in being a steward over unrighteous mammon, or “man’s economy,” which is, again, man’s ideology of getting rich by toiling for yourself. Mammon is man’s economy without God, and because we live in this world, we must use that system. However, we are to trump that system by operating in God’s system. That is the pathway to discovering the wealth of the wicked, which is stored up for the righteous (see Proverbs 13:22).

Let me suggest that the ultimate way to use mammon and not become infected with the love of money is to be in God’s economy. This means we must develop a mindset that proclaims in our hearts, “I am gaining monetary value so that I may be an exceedingly generous giver.” Generosity and sowing from the wealth of the wicked or man’s economy are to convert mammon into a blessing. Let me give you an example from my life.

Years ago, I worked for an airplane manufacturing company. During this time, Heather and I were newly married and living in a tiny rental house, and I was meditating on this truth. We didn’t have anything to our name, and to sow anything was well beyond our mindset. One day, as I was meditating on this, I kept thinking, I wish I had something to sow to engage God’s economy beyond tithing, beyond just regular giving, when suddenly it dawned on me—I have a car!

This car was all we had at the moment, and because of that, it wasn’t a practical thought to give it away, but the idea stayed with me. It wouldn’t leave me, mostly because I was meditating on being a sower. Finally, it became an internal decision. I was going to give our car away. I spoke with Heather about this, and she came into agreement with me. We found someone we thought we should give it to, and that is what we did. At the same time, we had just been to a meeting where all I had to my name was a savings bond worth about 800 dollars given to me by my wonderful grandmother, so we sowed that also into a ministry. After we did this, I started to sweat, thinking, what have we done? I thought I would look like a fool, and we would be far more broke than we were already! However, the strangest thing happened to us; within days, we started receiving small gifts in the mail from several people who would say, “I was praying, and the Lord strongly placed you on my heart to send money to you.” Shortly after, we received a call, and someone said, “We felt we were supposed to sow our new car into you.” They did, and it was a beautiful vehicle.

No one knew that we were doing these things, but I have to tell you it created a bold faith in me to continue sowing. We did. After a while, we had another car, and I sowed that one, and another, and another. We began giving from the little we had and eventually grew to a supernatural place of sowing and reaping constantly. I like what my friend Mark Hankins says: If you get addicted to giving, God will support your habit!

God is the author of Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” This verse gives the picture of holding up your garment like a basket and someone pouring in grain until it fills and overflows. What an amazing God we serve. His ways are higher than ours, and our way of accessing what He provides is through faith acts of obedience to His Word.

Accessing the blessing provided for you violates all your natural understanding. Your flesh and popular opinion around you might negatively affect what some would call seed faith. However, I am living proof of seed faith; what we have done by the grace of God is impossible in the natural, but when you do what God prescribes by faith and work diligently alongside it, His promises will surely manifest in your life. I learned a long time ago that you cannot bury seed. If you put resources into good ground, they will bring about a harvest; that seed will always come up again even if it gets covered with concrete—it will grow up to it until it cracks the concrete and sprouts above it. What you sow will always return to you, so it is vital to wait on it and not grow weary or faint in the middle of waiting. Your harvest will always come back to you!

It is hard to hit a moving target! Allow me to explain. When life throws various issues at you, there is something you should consider. Trials and difficulties often come to your life because God is working out an arrival at your destiny.  Your role is not to grow weary in well-doing but to remain consistent and available for the Lord’s work.

A powerful access point to the blessing is to be a giver. It is true that giving is a force for walking in the blessing, and when giving is coupled with faith, doors, and provision begin to miraculously open to sowers. Something that has built our ministry and personal lives is illogical radical giving. Very often, when things seemed that they weren’t enough, or we didn’t have what we needed to go where we were supposed to go in life or for a particular goal, we would sow.

The most potent type of sowing is when it is a lot to you. You can’t always measure a person’s generosity by the amount they sow but rather what it means to them. In the past, when we sowed our last hundred dollars, it was a lot to us. It might as well have been a million dollars. Today, when we sow, it is much larger amounts because I always want it to mean something. Another way of saying it is if you don’t feel it when you give it, it might not have much impact when the harvest time comes.

You know when you have been generous because it stays with you after you sowed. Sometimes, the enemy will lie to you, saying how stupid it was to do that, or threaten you with questions like, “What if your sowing doesn’t work?” I like asking him, “What if it does work?” I intend to bust the yoke of containment, and by sowing aggressively and consistently while mixing it with faith, whatever yoke of containment I have in my way will break! This is the basis of God’s economy. In my book Breaking Hell’s Economy, I deal with these issues in depth because we are witnessing a generation of new believers who have no idea about sowing and reaping. To that blind spot, the devil says, “Amen.” We must be those who are ready not just to give but to do it in faith, believing for a future harvest of increase so we can sow even more. This type of momentum is what will get the gospel around the world and establish a culture shift.

The devil doesn’t have the anointing, so he uses money in the form of mammon, which is really a demonic counterfeit to the blessing. Many people against resources and ministries growing financially look through the lens of mammon, the Babylonian currency ideology. Toil, the sweat of the brow, and self-made wealth without God’s involvement in economics are disastrous. By seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things that mammon boasts about are added unto you—only God’s way, the supernatural way of favor. When you understand the blessing of the Lord makes one rich with no sorrow added unto it, you are walking in the fullness of God’s economy. By definition, rich means you have everything you need and plenty more to help the kingdom’s work.

Jesus wants you to rise and achieve your destiny and calling, free from the love of money, and this is done by walking in the blessing, by being a sower, seeking first the kingdom of God with your resources, and God can supernaturally open up every good thing to you.

Nothing beats a heart of generosity, especially when faith and intentional sowing are involved. Sowing will give you an unfair advantage! As blessing will continually come back to you. This is how winning is done and how to take ground in the kingdom for your future. We have done it for years and will continue to do it because God will not be mocked; whatever a man sows, he shall reap! God wants His will done worldwide, and you can take massive action by being a sower.
